Drug racket busted, 91 kg ganja found in Hyderabad

The arrested duo were presented in court and the judge sent them to judicial custody.

Hyderabad: Excise officials intercepted a car at Chandrayangutta and busted a drug racket on Saturday.

The sleuths recovered 91.55 kg ganja in the car. Excise officials said the gang had smuggled the ganja from Vizag and was going to distribute it to their contacts and dealers in Hyderabad.

The sleuths stopped the car at Chaderghat cross roads after receiving a tip-off from their sources. They detained two people, Achuth Rao and Venkat Rao, who were in the vehicle and conducted a search of their car.

The ganja was found packed in plastic covers, excise officials said. “They were carrying 91.55 kg ganja in the vehicle. During the interrogation it came to light that both were smuggling the ganja from Chintapally in Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad as per the instructions of a person named Raj Babu,” said assistant commissioner of prohibition and excise P. Bhargava Reddy.

The officials are now trying to track down Raj Babu, who is believed to be the brain behind the drugs racket. The arrested duo were presented in court and the judge sent them to judicial custody.
