Coimbatore: Taxi driver found strangled to death in car

The Sai Baba Colony police have registered a case under IPC section 302 for murder.

Coimbatore: A 60-year-old man was found strangled to death in his car parked along the Thadagam Road in Coimbatore on Monday.

The public, who noticed the man dead in the car that was parked near the office of the Agriculture department joint director this morning, had informed the Sai Baba Colony police. A team of cops led by deputy commissioner Nisha Parthiban rushed to the spot and held enquiries.

The deceased was identified as Ethiraj, a taxi driver from Ooty. Investigations revealed that Ethiraj had come down to Coimbatore on a trip with customers on Sunday, but was found dead the next day morning. He was strangled to death with a shawl and had injury marks on his face.

The body of the deceased had been sent for post-mortem at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). Cops have also seized some gold jewels from the car.

Police who are clueless over the motive of the murder have formed special teams to probe and nab the culprits. “We are also monitoring the images recorded in the CCTV fixed in the area. Special teams have gone to Ooty to know whom Ethiraj had picked up from Ooty for the trip,” said a cop.

Ethiraj is survived by his wife and three children. The Sai Baba Colony police have registered a case under IPC section 302 for murder.
