Chennai: Hunt on for head and torso of woman severed by hubby
Chennai: A day after the identity of the woman whose body parts were found in Pallikaranai was established, the police recovered another limb from the Adyar River bank while three special police teams are still trying to find the head and torso of the victim at the dump yard.
A police team, led by Deputy Commissioner M S Muthusamy, arrived at Perungudi dump yard at 10 am on to look for the head of the corpse. On questioning the accused, Balakrishnan, it was learnt he had left some body parts under the bridge near Kasi Theatre, Ekkatuthangal. It is possible that the lorry has brought it to this dump yard, the police said.
On January 21, at 3 am, police found a right hand severed from the shoulder and two legs lying in the Pallikaranai dump yard. The city police formed three teams led by Deputy Commissioner Muthusamy to probe the case. On Wednesday, the police concluded that the victim was 35-year-old Sandhya, a mother of two children, and a resident of Jafferkhanpet. Sandhya worked as a junior artiste in several Tamil films, sources said.
Describing the difficulties the police had in identifying the woman, the police said that they only had one clue to identify her - a Shiva Parvathi tattoo on her right hand. “Following this, they sent out alerts to police stations across the state to find if there was any information on such a woman based on ‘missing person’ complaints. Finally, Thoothukudi police confirmed that a ‘missing person’ complaint had been filed by Sandhya’s mother and her identity was confirmed,” said A K Vishwanathan, Commissioner of Police when speaking to presspersons in Chennai on Wednesday.
Balakrishnan decided to murder Sandhya as he suspected her of infidelity. “Sandhya had gone home to Thoothukudi but had returned to their rented house in Gandhi Street, Jafferkhanpet, for Pongal. After a heated argument, Balakrishnan murdered her, severed her body parts and left them in various places to throw the police off the track,” the police officer said.
