BJP corporator's husband killed in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: In a gory incident a BJP councillor’s husband was hacked to death in broad daylight by a four-member gang near Anjanappa Garden in Cottonpet police station limits on Wednesday. While it’s believed old rivalry was to blame for the murder, the incident has taken a political twist with the BJP and Congress trading charges. The deceased, Kadiresh (47), was the husband of Chalavadi Palya ward councillor, Rekha Kadiresh. Besides being an active BJP worker, he was a rowdy sheeter at the Cottonpet police station. The attack happened around 3.45 pm, while he was on his way to inspect the work being done at the Muneshwara temple for the Shivaratri festival. The four attackers arrived in an autorickshaw, waylaid him near Anjanappa Garden and attacked him with knives and machetes. Although rushed to the Victoria Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

While it’s believed old rivalry was to blame for the murder, the BJP and Congress began to trade charges soon afterwards. BJP city president , NR Ramesh lost no time in accusing the Congress of plotting the murder and claimed a Congress leader from Chamrajpet was behind it.

In response, Home Minister, Ramalinga Reddy lambasted BJP leaders for jumping the gun and said only proper investigation could help the police get to the bottom of it.

The dead man, Kadiresh (47) was the husband of Chalavadi Palya ward councillor, Rekha Kadiresh. Besides being an active BJP worker, he was labelled a rowdysheeter by the Cottonpet police station.

It was while he was on his way to inspect the work being done at the Muneshwara temple for the Shivaratri festival of February 13 that he was attacked, according to the police. The time was around 3.45 pm in the afternoon.

The four men who arrived in an autorickshaw, waylaid him near Anjanappa Garden and after attacking him with knives and machetes, fled, leaving him bleeding . Although rushed to the Victoria Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

It is suspected that two of his assailants are Naveen and Vinay of the same area. Based on a complaint by Kadireshan’s brother, Suresh, the Cottonpet police have booked four persons, including Vinay and Naveen for the murder.. Additional Commissioner (West) BK Singh, DCP (South) SD Sharanappa and DCP (West) MN Anucheth visited the scene of the crime.
