Hyderabad: Madhapur police arrested a dentist who allegedly grabbed the flat rented out to him by the owner to run a dental clinic. A case was registered against Dr Bandlamudi Basaveswar Rao in 2014, and since then he had been absconding. Dr Basaveswar Rao, a resident of KPHB colony, signed a rental agreement with Mogili Narayana Reddy, for taking on rent his flat in Patrikanagar to start a dental clinic in 2013. He took the flat for a rent of '70,000 rent per month, and paid Rs 1 lakh as advance.

While making the agreement on non-judicial stamp paper, Dr Basaveswar made a hand written copy of the agreement, and after getting Narayana’s signature on the document, he took it for taking Xerox copies. Police said that he changed the rental agreement into a sale deed and added the digit four to the Rs 1,00,000 which was already written on the document, and made it as '41 lakh advance for sale of the flat. Later, when Narayana asked him to pay rent, he showed the forged document, and told Narayana that he had already sold the flat to him and also threatened him.

Narayana realised that he had been cheated and filed a complaint with the police in 2014, and a case was registered for cheating and forgery. Since then Dr Basaveswar had been absconding. After receiving a tip-off, police nabbed him from Guntur. Police found that Dr Basaveswar had cheated three others too using the same modus operandi, and that cases had been registered against him in KPHB, Guntur and Mangalagiri. He was remanded to custody.
