Man kills pregnant wife and infant son for dowry in Karimnagar

Police registered a murder cum dowry case against Ramesh.

Karimnagar: In a gruesome incident, a man throttled his pregnant wife and his one-year-old son to death, allegedly for additional dowry at Chakunta village in Choppadandi mandal on Saturday night. Ploce said that he tried to end his life after the murder by jumping into an agricultural well on the outskirts of the village on Friday. However, he was rescued by farmers. His condition is stated to be stable.

Choppadandi inspector P. Laxmi Babu said the deceased were identified as Neelam Anita, 28, and Charan Tej. The accused, Neelam Ramesh, was unemployed after returning from a Gulf country four years back.

Ramesh killed his wife, who was five months pregnant and his son as she failed to bring additional dowry for which he was pestering her since months.

Unable to stomach the harassment of Ramesh, Anita had called her mother and told her that she would come to the house of her parents on Saturday. Her elder brother, Anjaiah, visited her home as her mobile phone was switched off only to find the dead bodies of his sister and son.

Hailng from Kolimikunta village in Choppadandi mandal Anita married Ramesh three years ago. “We had given Rs 10 lakh as dowry and 10 tolas of gold at the time of wedding. In addition, we gave Rs 5 lakh during the cradle ceremony of Charan Tej. Ramesh was constantly torturing Anita and was quarreling with us, for dowry,” Anjaiah said.

Based on a complaint from Anjaiah, police registered a murder cum dowry case against Ramesh, his parents and his family.
