Visakhapatnam: A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded on Wednesday in Luvva Gedda, a canal falling under the jurisdiction of Anantagiri police station in Alluri Sitarama Raju district. Three individuals, Gemmala Lakshmi, 52, Gemmala Kumar, 25, and Miriyala Kamala, 40, residents of Bheempolu Panchayat in Anantagiri mandal, lost their lives in a drowning accident.
The incident occurred around 4 pm as the trio attempted to cross the Luvva Gedda canal after completing errands in Sitapadu village, which falls within the Bheempolu Panchayat. This canal serves as the vital link between the Tatipudi Reservoir in Vizianagaram district and Bheempolu in Alluri Sitarama Raju district.
Anantagiri ZPTC member B. Gangaraju reported that the three individuals were unexpectedly engulfed by a sudden surge of water while crossing the canal. This prompted immediate action from local residents and the police, who launched a search operation. Anantagiri police confirmed the drowning and actively participated in the search along the canal.
