After KPL, BTC under scanner for illegal betting
BENGALURU: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Friday raided the Bengaluru Turf Club (BTC) and detained 40 private bookies on charges of illegally collecting betting money from the public.
The police had received information about the bookies, owners, and club counters evading GST to the government and carrying out illegal transactions at BTC.
"We had received several complaints of private bookies selling tickets to the public and not paying the GST to the government. As such transactions are illegal, we raided BTC," the police said.
A team of two DCPs, four ACPs and 20 police inspectors along with their staff raided the club on Friday. The teams searched the counters of private bookies from where they sold the tickets. During the raid, the police seized Rs 96 lakh betting amount and detained 40 private bookies. The police are verifying the documents. A similar raid was conducted in November last year and the police had arrested 10 bookies for indulging in similar practices. The police had then seized Rs 5.9 lakh cash from them.
