Bengaluru: Minor girl accuses coach of molestation
BENGALURU: A 15-year-old discus thrower has accused her coach of molestation and sexual harassment, while she was on an outdoor camp for a tournament.
The girl along with her parents approached the Chikkajala police on Wednesday and filed a complaint.
The girl, a class nine student of Jayaprakash Narayan Sports Centre, which comes under the Department of Youth Empowerment Services (DYES) in Vidyanagar, told police that her coach Manjunath touched her inappropriately during the tournament, which was held in Visakhapatnam from Nov. 24 to 26.
The girl, who was part of the state team, alleged that Manjunath grabbed her neck and pushed her during the tournament.
When summoned by the police, Manjunath denied the girl's allegation and said he never touched her inappropriately. He touched her only to correct her position during a discus throw.
The police have taken up the investigation and will enquire with other participants who were part of the tourney. It is learnt that the girl after returning from the tournament narrated the incident to her parents, who approached the DYES.
They were advised to lodge a police complaint following which the parents and the girl went to the Chikkajala police.
Manjunath was a coach at Kanteerava stadium, till he was appointed to the sports centre last month.
