A complaint was filed by Sabila Begum, wife of Shaik Yousuf, stating that Shaik Khatoon approa-ched her at the maternity hospital at Petlaburju and requested her to give a baby girl for adoption. When she refused, her husband threatened to divorce her, said the police.

“The girl was handed over by Mrs Khatoon to Gangadhar Reddy, an agent, who contacted the couple, Nageswara Rao and Parvathi,” he added.

They approached poor parents who come for delivery in government hospitals and offer them money. Based on the complaint, special teams were set up and the accused persons were picked up.
