Tension in LB stadium after followers of two pehelwans clash

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in LB indoor stadium during the Modi Kesari wrestling championship (MKWC) following a showdown between followers of two pehelwans late Friday night.

According to the organisers, Zafar Pahalwan, president of Telangana Wrestling Association (TWA), and Salem Pahalwan were invited as chief guests. Trouble began around 7.30 pm when Salem was called on stage by the MKWC organisers and honoured with a 'pagdi'.

Zafar, using abusive language, threatened to thrash the organisers. Salem’s followers attacked Zafar’s son and followers, Saifabad police said.

When Salem and his followers rushed to Saifabad police station and lodged a complaint, they were attacked by Zafar, his sons and followers, who reached the venue from the Old City, police said.

“Based on Salem’s complaint we have registered a case for causing grievous injuries and criminal intimidation under section 325, 324 506 of IPC against Zafar and others,” Swamy, SI of Saifabad police station, who is the investigation officer, said.
