Enraged over daughter’s elopement, couple thrashes groom’s family
TIRUPATI: Furious over their daughter’s elopement with a youth, a Guntur-based couple and their aides allegedly assaulted the latter’s parents and siblings at their house in Buchinaidupalli under Chandragiri police station limits at night on Thursday.
Tirupati west division police said they got a complaint from Dr. B. Mohan Krishna (25) who married Dr. V. Sushma (25) against her family’s wishes.
On Thursday around 11.30pm, the girl’s parents, V. Srinivasa Rao and Jhansi, along with a gang, arrived at Mohan’s house and attacked him, his parents and other family members, the complainant said.
He said he was injured and took treatment at a hospital.
Chandragiri police told Deccan Chronicle that the couple had been in a relationship for the past two years. Once the parents rejected their marriage proposal, they eloped from their houses and got married on August 27.
“After my parents started breaking the doors of the bathroom, where we both were hiding, I came out and surrendered to them, requesting them not to harm my husband and his family members. Later, I went to Guntur in their car that night, but escaped from them the next morning and reached back to my husband,” Dr. Sushma said.
The Chandragiri police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police security has been provided to the doctor couple.
