Bengaluru: Speeding truck crushes car, four students dead
Bengaluru: In a horrific accident, four students, all hailing from Kerala, were crushed to death when their car was hit by a truck in Sanganabasava Doddi village on Bengaluru-Mysuru highway early Friday.
The incident took place around 4 am while their car, coming towards Bengaluru, hit a median in Sanganabasava Doddi village in Ramanagara district and crossed over to the opposite lane. It then got hit by a speeding Haryana registration truck.
The impact was so severe that all of them died on the spot. The truck driver, however, fled from the spot, leaving the vehicle. Later in the day he was secured by the Ramanagara traffic police.
The police have identified the deceased as Joel Jacob, Rebecca, Nikhith Job and Jeena Yaldo. While Joel was a student of Rajarajeshwari Medical College in Bengaluru, Nikhith was a studying chartered accountancy at a private college in Kerala. Both Rebecca and Jeena were studying at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), in Tamil Nadu. All the deceased were aged between 23 and 26 years.
Joel and Nikhith hailed from Pathanamthitta district in Kerala, while Jeena and Rebecca were from Kolenchery.
The police said that, prima facie, it appears that Joel, who was behind the wheel, may have doze-off and lost control over the vehicle.
