Andhra Pradesh: Smugglers use new ways to hoodwink cops
Tirupati: Smugglers are frequently updating their strategies to escape from the Task force. Recently, while an investigation was being carried out on a smuggler, the task force came to know that the labourers are dropped at the entry points on two wheelers to escape being checked by the Anti-smuggling taskforce.
A person named Sounder rajan, who was arrested by the task force a few days back revealed about this new strategy being followed upon being investigated.
As anti-smuggling taskforce is searching only four wheelers thoroughly and taking the suspects into custody, the smugglers have also changed the way they commute and are dropping the labourers on motorcycles.
The labourers reach Vellore in Tamil Nadu which is about 120 Km from Tirupati from where they are then transported on motorcycles to escape the checking done by task force on roads. All this is said to have started about a month ago according to task force officials.
Earlier, the task force and forest department seized many bikes at the loading point but this is the first time that came into the notice of taskforce that the smugglers are now transporting the labourers using motorcycles.
The motorcycles are mostly used as pilot vehicles to alert those behind about the checking ahead.
Speaking to this newspaper, Shankar P. Ravi, Anti-smuggling taskforce SP said, "We are checking all the four wheelers thoroughly as that is the only possibile way to transport all the labourers to their required destination. We were shocked when we learnt about the new strategy being adopted by the smugglers. But, we have instructed all check posts to keep an eye out.
