Andhra Pradesh: Intermediate girl commits suicide, probe ordered

The parents and relatives wanted to visit the hostel room where the girl died but the college management refused to permit them.

Anantapur: Tension prevailed after a junior intermediate student committed suicide by hanging in her hostel room in Narayana Junior College near Krishnapuram in Kadapa in the wee hours of Friday.

The parents and relatives wanted to visit the hostel room where the girl died but the college management refused to permit them. This led to the tense situation at the college and also at the RIMS hospital.

K. Pavani, 17, native of Bakrapet in Chittoor district, was studying junior Intermediate and residing at the hostel. Earlier, she spent Dasara holidays at Bakrapet and returned to the college on Wednesday.

The college management received information about the suicide when inmates noticed her hanging from the fan. They also informed the girls’ parents around 5.30 am.

Kadapa DSP M. Masumvali told media that the inmates of the hostel were sleeping when th girl ended her life. “So far, there are no clues,” he added.

Pavani’s father K. Malleswar Reddy said she expressed nothing while leaving for the college. “We spoke to her on Thursday evening and everything seemed to be normal,” he recalled.

Police sources said case was being investigated to find the reasons behind the suicide. Kadapa collector Baburao Naidu ordered a probe into the incident.

HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao reacted seriously to the incident and ordered a probe while seeking a detailed report.
