Biker skids; run over by bus in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: The city's pothole riddled roads have claimed yet another life. A 24-year-old man lost control over his bike while trying to avoid a pothole and fell. He then got run over by a private bus. The incident was reported on Mysuru Road in Raja Rajeshwarinagar on Thursday morning.

The deceased, Varun Gowda, was a resident of Nayandahalli and working at a welding shop in Kengeri. According to the police, Varun the accident happened around 8.30 am near the Raja Rajeshwarinagar arch while he was on his way to work.

When he applied sudden brake to avoid a pothole, the bike skidded and he fell. A private bus that was behind his vehicle ran over him. Though he was rushed to a hospital, he was declared brought dead. The bus driver did not stop and sped away.

“The BWSSB had dug the road to fix a leaking water pipe. But after the work got over, they had not closed it properly and there were potholes. We have taken up a case against a BWSSB Assistant Engineer for negligence. Efforts are on to nab the bus driver,” an official said, adding that Varun was not wearing helmet when the mishap occurred.
