Nellore: Close relative attacks minor girl with acid, slits her throat
NELLORE: A close relative of a 14-year-old girl had poured bathroom cleaning acid on her face and slit her throat when she vehemently resisted his attempts to steal valuables in the house on Monday at a village at Venkatachalam mandal in Nellore district.
According to Rural DSP Y. Harinath Reddy and Venkatachalam circle inspector Gangadhar, the Class IX student was alone at home as her parents went to work.
Taking advantage of the situation, the accused identified as Nellore Nagaraju, 34, entered the house in an inebriated condition and tried to steal her gold ear studs and valuables from the cupboard.
The offender brought the cleaning acid in a bowl from his house to make her unconscious before robbing the house.
He dipped a cloth in the acid and pressed it on the face of the girl, who fell down unable to bear the smell.
Fearing that the minor girl would disclose his identity when she regains consciousness, he slit her throat with a knife from the kitchen.
He managed to remove one ear stud from the girl and Rs 4,000 cash from a cupboard. Before fleeing from the house, he dumped the girl in the bathroom.
The girl came into senses after a while and managed to walk up to the neighbour’s house.
Profusely bleeding from the neck, the girl who also suffered minor burns on the face because of acid told the neighbour through signs about the attack by her aunt’s son.
The neighbours alerted her parents working in Nellore and shifted her to GGH in Nellore after first aid by a RMP in the village.
She was later admitted to a private hospital at Nellore late on Monday night and the doctors performed a minor surgery.
However, higher officials shifted her to a corporate hospital in Chennai for better treatment on Tuesday. Her condition is stated to be stable. Police reportedly nabbed the offender and he confessed his role in the crime.
Meanwhile, agriculture minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy along with collector K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu, deputy inspector general of police Dr Trivikram Varma and SP Ch. Vijaya Rao presented a cheque worth Rs 5 lakh as ex gratia to the family of the girl on Tuesday evening.
Minister said they took the issue to the notice to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and gave the cheque as per his directions.
Speaking on the occasion DIG said that the son of the victim’s aunt identified as Nellore Nagaraju 34 is the prime accused in the case.
The DIG said they would file chargesheet within 7 days under Disha Act to expedite the trial and ensure suitable punishment to the accused.
Collector said they would bear the expenditure for treatment and assured all help to the family.
