Hyderabad: 1 held for stealing handbags in trains

Hyderabad: A 34-year-old thief who stole handbags from women on trains was arrested by the Nizamabad railway police. The accused, Sugave Shesha Rao alias Kishore, used to operate on the Nanded (Maharashtra)-Secunderabad route. He was accused of five cases of theft of handbags on the Rayalaseema, Vishaka, Jaipur and Ajantha express trains. The railway police recovered cash and gold worth Rs 5.5 lakh.

Mr Kumar said Rao had formed a four-member gang in Parli, Maharashtra, along with Dinesh Wattor, Chandapur Santosh and Harish.

They split due to differences over sharing the loot.

He was caught while moving under suspicious circumstances near the entrance of the Nizamabad station. On his confession, police recovered 85 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 1.91 lakh cash.

Nizamabad railway police sub-inspector B. Pranay Kumar said Rao used to target the Ajanta Express which reaches Nizamabad at about 6 am and is generally packed. In one instance, he stole a handbag containing 19 grams of gold and Rs 11,000 cash belonging to a woman travelling on Rayalaseema Express, who had got down to get water
