Chennai: Cop attacked by law student
Chennai: A policeman on duty at the Marina beach suffered injuries after he was assaulted by a law college student on Tuesday evening. The policeman, S. Satya, attached to the armed reserve was on patrol duty at the Marina beach when the incident happened.
The student, later identified as C. Nityanandan (25), a third year student at the Ambedkar law college, had come on his motorcycle and attempted to ride through the service lanes when the policemen flagged him.
The service lanes were shut down for traffic on Tuesday as a precautionary measure to not allow protestors from thronging the beach, police sources said. The student picked up an argument with the policeman and it escalated into a brawl in which the policeman was assaulted and left with a bloodied face.
The injured policeman was moved to a hospital for treatment. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case against the law student. He was let off on station bail.
