Thane police arrest 3 after seizing cache of explosives from scrap yard

According to police, the 3 planted explosives to frame a resident of Kausa who had a civil dispute with one of the three accused.

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Mumbai Police on Monday siezed a huge cache of explosives from a scrap yard in Mumbra and arrested three people in this regard. The scrap yard is located in Mumbra-Kausa area of Thane district.

In the joint raid of Thane Police, Railway Police and Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS); 10 kg of ammonium nitrate and nine detonator sticks were taken out from a junked SUV at the scrap yard.

In a Press Conference held in the Thane Police Station, Satya Narayan, Additional CP, Thane, said that three people have been arrested for planting these explosives.

He said, "The names of the three accused are Shah Alam (32), Aarif Khan (23) and Maisha Gadnnur (40)."

One of the three accused, Shah Alam had a previous case of extortion lodged against him, Narayan said

According to the Police, the three of them planted the explosives to frame a resident of Kausa, Ismail Sheikh, who had a civil dispute with one of the three accused, Maisha Gadnnur.

The police have although denied that this is a case of terror activity.

"Prima facie it does not seem to be a case of terror. We are interrogating the accused about the source from where they have acquired the explosives. We are investigating through all angles," Narayan said.
