The snatchers stole two gold chains weighing around 6 tolas from the victim.

Hyderabad: A woman from Kerala who was travelling to Secunderabad in a train to meet her brother was robbed by chain-snatchers. The snatchers stole two gold chains weighing around 6 tolas from the victim, M. Kavitha. Secunderabad Railway Police registered a case. In another incident in Mirchowk, chain-snatchers grabbed a 2.5 tola gold chain from a woman.

M. Kavitha, 32, a housewife from Thiruvananthpuram, her two kids and her mother boarded the Sabari Express at Thiruvananthpuram. They were coming to Hyderabad to meet her brother who stays at Uppal for Rakhi celebrations.

She told the police she had pinned the gold chains with a safety pin to her sari before sleeping. When the train was about to reach Chittoor railway station at around 11 pm on Saturday night, she felt a pull on her body. When she woke up she found an injury on her neck and realised that her gold chains had been stolen. The snatcher pulled both the chains from her neck, but as they were pinned to her sari the pin injured her neck.

After getting down at Secunderabad on Sunday she filed a complaint. “We registered a case and since the place of offence falls under Chittoor limits the case will be transferred to Chittoor Railway Police,” said inspector S. Chand-raiah of the Secunderabad Railway Police.

In Mirchowk, a chain-snatcher fled with a 2.5 tola gold chain near Salar Jung museum gate on Saturday night. The victim, Saritha Konkani, 49, a resident of Malakpet, had come to meet her daughter and was returning home when a biker snatched her chain.
