Hyderabad: Man held with gold at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport
Hyderabad: An airline passenger who was trying to smuggle gold bars by concealing them in a secret pocket in his trouser was arrested by customs officials at RGI Airport on Sunday. They also seized two gold bars weighing 233 grams from him.
Customs officials said the passenger hailing from Hyderabad went to Saudi Arabia a few months ago. On Sunday morning he landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad in an Oman Airlines flight (WY 0235).
Based on credible information he was apprehended for questioning, but he initially denied all charges, but a thorough interrogation revealed that he was carrying two gold bars weighing 233 grams.
He had concealed the bars in a secret pocket inside the trouser he was wearing, a customs officer said. Officials found that he had travelled to Hyderabad from Riyadh via Muscat. They seized the gold bars weighing 233 grams worth Rs 6,88,515 and his passport. The passenger was arrested. The case is being investigated.
