Hyderabad: The police has established the identity of the two girls who committed suicide by jumping into the RK Puram lake on Friday. Mounika was studying engineering III year at Aurora Engineering College, while Sowmya was studying Intermediate at the Sri Chaitanya residential campus at Champapet.
The death which was registered as suspicious deaths on Friday was altered to abetment to suicide case against Kamesh in the case of Mounika and against family members in the case of Sowmya.
Police said Mounika was the only daughter of her parents and Sowmya is the daughter of her mother’s sister. Mounika was in love with one Nagarjuna. but his friend Kamesh who works as an event photographer, entered their relationship and made a negative impression on Mounika against Nagarjuna, due to which he broke with Mounika.and got engaged to another girl.
“Kamesh proposed to Mounika and started harassing her. He also blackmailed her that he would reveal their affair to her parents,” SI D. Kishan said. Troubled by this she committed suicide. Kamesh is now absconding.
Sowmya who joined Sri Chaitanya Residential Junior College at Champapet a month ago, came to Mounika’s home nearly 20 days ago and fell sick. “Troubled by the pressure from her father’s relatives to continue studies, Sowmya committed suicide.” Mr Kishan added, quoting Sowmya’s note.
On Thursday night at 7.30 pm they left for a relative's home in Nacharam. They travelled by bus from ECIL to Trimulgherry and could have taken an autorickshaw to RK Puram, police said.
"We have altered the case to abetment to suicide in both deaths," Mr Kishan said.
The bodies were handed over to the families after post-mortem.
