Hyderabad: Two arrested for stealing from temple hundis

Police as part of the inquiry collected CCTV records from the temple and nearby areas.

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police, with the help of clues from CCTV cameras installed at a temple, arrested notorious offenders who targeted hundis in temples and decamped with cash and jewellery. Police said M. Manoj, 22, was involved in 12 cases in the past. DCP Madhapur P Vishwaprasad said that in the last week of June, around five thefts occurred in Kukatpally division. Prior to this, around seven thefts took place in surrounding police stations. On June 25, a theft occurred at the Venateshwara Swamy temple in KPHB.

Police as part of the inquiry collected CCTV records from the temple and nearby areas. The suspect was identified as M. Naveen, a rag picker. While collecting the waste, he would conduct recce and identify his targets. “He has been committing offences for the past one year and disposed the stolen property for less prices. After he was nabbed on Thursday, he confessed of the offences.” the DCP said. He was sent to remand and Police also recovered Rs 1.5 lakh cash and the Panchaloha idol stolen from JNTU temple from his residence in Ghatkesar.
