Bengaluru: A gang of four people, including a woman, that attacked home alone and elderly women was arrested by the Basaveshwaranagar police. The woman accused used to approach home alone woman on the pretext of seeking job as domestic help and later the gang members used to attack and rob the victim.
The accused have been identified as Hemavathi alias Sangeetha, 24, a resident of Kaveripura in Kamakshipalya, Bharath, 20, of Bagalagunte, Vinaykumar S, 23, of Ambedkar Nagar in Yashwanthpur and Ravikiran, 22, of Nagasandra.
On Tuesday afternoon, an incident was reported in Shakthi Ganapathinagar, where a gang had robbed a 49-year-old woman, Kavita, of valuables worth Rs 1.50 lakh. A case was registered in Basaveshwaranagar police station in this connection.
The police gathered information about the modus operandi of the gang from the complainant and launched a search to nab the accused.
“The footage captured by several CCTV cameras in the locality were analysed and it was found that three youth were running after the incident. Efforts were made to identify them and one of the informants identified Vinaykumar. He was picked up the same day and based on his information, the other three were arrested,” the police said.
Investigations revealed that the gang was operating at the behest of notorious rowdy Praveen alias Hitachi Praveen, who is currently lodged in Parappana Agrahara central prison.
“Praveen used to make phone calls from the prison and direct another accused woman, who name is also Hema. They used to hatch the plot to commit robbery. The woman members used to approach women seeking jobs as domestic help. If there were other family members, they would drop the plan and if the woman was alone, they would signal other gang members, who would barge into the house, attack and rob the victim,” the police said. The accused were involved in similar offences reported in three other police stations, the police added.
