Lawyer had no locus standi to file bail plea: CPP
Chennai: The city public prosecutor (CPP) has raised suspicion over filing of a bail petition by an advocate on behalf of P. Ramkumar, arrested on charge of allegedly murdering Swathi, before the Principal Sessions court on Wednesday.
When the bail petition filed by advocate G. Krishnamurthy and his junior Mahendran on behalf of Ramkumar came up for hearing before the Principal sessions judge, G. Jayachandran, the CPP told the court that G. Krishnamurthy had no locus standi to file the petition on behalf of the accused.
Krishnamurthy had not obtained consent from Ramkumar for filing the plea. Ramkumar remained unconscious two days ago. Jagan also stated that Krishnamurthy's prime intention was to get publicity. Soon after filing the petition he addressed mediapersons and gave a bail petition copy to reporters.
On hearing this, several advocates sought the court permission to intervene in the proceedings. Refusing to accept intervenor petitions, the judge directed Krishnamurthy to file a reply to clear doubts raised by CPP. Later, he adjourned the matter to July 15 for further hearing.
