Karnataka: Channapatna tahsildar's mother murdered

Bengaluru: A tahsildar’s mother was bludgeoned to death in broad daylight by miscreants, who made away with her gold jewellery at their house in Channapatna in Ramanagara on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Puttathayamma alias Thayamma, 70, mother of Channapatna tahsildar Ramesh.

According to the police the incident happened around 2.30 pm. A gang of four miscreants got into Tahsildar’s residence in Channapatna town from the rear door. Puttathayamma was alone at the house and the assailants attacked her with a digging bar that was found in the house. The fled after robbing her jewels, the police added.

There were no CCTV cameras at the house or in the vicinity, the police said. Preliminary investigations reveal that the motive of the murder was for gain as the jewellery was missing. However, we are probing all the angles to ascertain the exact motive for the crime, a senior police officer said.

The incident came to light when Ramesh reached home for lunch. He saw his mother lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen and immediately informed the police.

Senior police officials, including DySP Ramanagara Dhananjay, rushed to the spot and conducted a spot mahazar along with Forensic Science Laboratory experts, who collected finger prints from the crime scene and dog squad did their rounds of investigations.

The body was later shifted to Channapatna government hospital for postmortem. Channapatna Town police have registered a case of murder and further investigations are underway to nab the killers.
