Hyderabad: In order to facilitate the patrons and pedestrians at HiTec City station, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has been negotiating with the owners of My Home Hub property for land acquisition. HMRL managing director N.V.S. Reddy said that he has issued instructions to first check the property for violations and then negotiate with its owners for its acquisition.

The Hitec City station is the most congested on the network. Mr Reddy explained that the transformer installed near the Hitec City station had made the world-class footpath extremely narrow, thereby causing inconvenience to pedestrians. He said that the HMRL had written to the electricity department about removing the transformer.

This apart, Mr Reddy has asked the metro authorities to check the building plan of My Home Hub as its premises conspicuously contribute to making the stretch narrow.

He said that Metro Rail authorities will negotiate with the property owners after verifying the deviations. Land or property will be acquired as per the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 in the interest of the public.

This decision was taken against the backdrop of the rise in the footfall at the Hitec City station. About 2.5 lakh people are using the Ameerpet-HiTec City stretch since its inaugural in March.

Mr Reddy says the traffic blocks are affecting Metro Rail commuters who opt for shared autorickshaws or shuttle services to travel to work. “It is also hindering the free movement of pedestrians, who are forced to walk on the busy road,” Mr Reddy said.
