Hyderabad: 2 cheat holiday-goers with hopes of Dubai vacation

Shyam Kumar surrendered himself before the CCS police and both were remanded to judicial custody.

Hyderabad: CCS sleuths of Hyderabad apprehended two people for cheating 66 members in the guise of running a travel agency and promising to take them to Dubai at cheaper prices.

The arrested were identified as Tanneeru Shyam Kumar, 45, a travel agent from Guntur, AP and Gontu Raj Kumar, 40, a travel services businessman and resident of Ameerpet.

The arrest was made following a complainant received from J. Pratap Reddy, a contractor, stating that he and 65 others formed a group and planned to go to Dubai. They approached Shyam Kumar and once the travel proposal was finalised, they made an online transfer of Rs 17 lakh to Shyam and his wife Ms Usha Kiran’s bank accounts.

“Shyam in turn transferred the amount to Raj Kumar, an agent of Oasis Tours and Travels, Delhi in his personal bank account instead of paying it to the travel agency. Ajay Dogra, the operation head of Oasis Tours and Travels, confirmed that Raj Kumar is their assistant. When they were asked about their visa, tickets, Ajay told that all the funds are with Raj Kumar and was never given to the company,” said the DCP, CCS, Avinash Mohanty.

A special team was sent to New Delhi, who analysed call data records and electricity tower location of the mobile number and apprehended Raj Kumar at his residence at Uttam Nagar in New Delhi.

Raj Kumar was produced in the Metropolitan Magistrate court in New Delhi and was produced before courts in Hyderabad after getting a transit warrant. Upon knowing this, Shyam Kumar surrendered himself before the CCS police and both were remanded to judicial custody.
