13-year-old girl raped in UP, legs burnt for trying to approach police
Auraiya: A 13-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district has alleged that she was raped and her legs were burnt by two men from her village.
According to a report, the incident happened six months ago but the girl kept quiet because of repeated threats to her family from the accused. Finally, a police complaint was registered two days ago when the girl’s family approach the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

The girl alleged that she was raped on December 31 last year. When the family was on its way to complain to the police the next day, the accused and four of their sisters caught them, and poured diesel on the girl and set her on fire, burning her legs.
"They kept on threatening me not to approach the police, saying whatever they did to me they would do to my family too, so I couldn't muster up the courage to do anything," the girl was quoted as saying.

The family did not take the girl to a major hospital due to threats from the accused. But finally, a neighbour took them to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Atul Sharma, and the case was filed on June 5.
"We will catch the culprits soon and will investigate what kind of threats the family was getting," said Mr Sharma said.
The girl has been sent to a hospital in Saifai, about 85 km from Auraiya, to treat her for the burn injuries.
