Hyderabad: Flyer with gold taped to waist, shoes held
Hyderabad: An air passenger from Hyderabad who attempted to smuggle in gold by concealing it in a cloth wrapped around his waist and in his shoes, was apprehended by the Air Intelligence Unit of Hyderabad customs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Monday.
The passenger was attempting to smuggle in almost 3,300 gm of the yellow metal of foreign origin which is worth over Rs 1.04 crore. This is the third case booked by the customs department this month.
The passenger arrived at RGIA in Shamshabad on a Scoot Airways flight from Singapore at around 12.45 pm (TR 574) on Monday. He was taken aside for checking and the gold found in his possession.
“The passenger, identified as Chowtipalli Suresh, who arrived at Hyderabad was booked for smuggling. He was carrying the gold concealed in a cloth wrapped around his waist with black tape, and also some was in his shoes. A total of 33 gold bars were seized worth about `1.4 crore. A case has been registered and the passenger is being questioned,” said AIU official.
