Anchuthengu rape case suspect a serial offender

Though the police suspect that victims were abused, none of them had alleged rape.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The sexual predator who allegedly raped an elderly woman at Anchuthengu has been accused in atrocities on women earlier also. The man who stayed at a house facing the backwaters at Anchuthengu used to escape the police by diving and disappearing in the waters infamous for swirls.

The accused identified as Anas, 29, son of Sainalabudeen of Kochuthezhikkakam house, Onnampalam, Neduganda near Achuthengu was produced before a court on Friday. He had entered the house of the 68-year-old victim and raped her after cutting the power supply on April 2.

Based on the description by the victim, the policemen reached his house by dusk and grappled with him from behind before he could jump into the waters as usual.

Further, he and two other historysheeters in the area were brought for identification parade before the woman who identified Anas. Anas had broken into a house at Onnampalam itself and abused women there a few years ago. Similarly three women victims from Kadakkavoor and Anchuthengu had filed cases of theft and outraging their modesty.

Though the police suspect that victims were abused, none of them had alleged rape. The man who also has ganja cases against him spent the maximum time in boats off the coast to evade police. He was arrested by a team led by Rural SP Shefeen Ahamed and Assistant Commissioners Chandrasekharan Pillai and T. Ajith Kumar.
