Tirupati: Rs 9 lakh unaccounted cash seized in searches

Meanwhile, the East division police also nabbed a thief.

Tirupati: Tirupati (Urban) police seized Rs 9.21 lakh cash on Saturday from various places across the division during an intensified checking ahead of the April 11 elections. SP K.K.N. Anburajan along with the police teams, flying squad and static surveillance teams conducted vehicular checks across the Urban district.

Revealing details of the cash seizures, Mr Anburajan said that Rs 6 lakh unaccounted cash was seized from a vehicle near Thottambedu PS check post. Srikalahasthi PS flying squad seized Rs 1,41,700 unaccounted cash near Endrapalli in this Mandal. The remaining amount was seized from three other locations in the Urban district.

Meanwhile, the East division police also nabbed a thief, who picked a motor-cycle near Central bus station, on Saturday during the vehicular checks at TMR circle in the city.

Election Squad manning a check post at Diguvametta, a village in Nallamala forest area of Prakasam district, seized Rs 29.47 lakh from a passenger travelling on an RTC bus bound for Hindupur.
