Rajahmundry: In a surprisingly large haul, a burglar was arrested and four kilograms of gold jewellery and 1.3 kg silver articles were seized from him by the police at Bhimavaram in West Godavari on Saturday.
According to the police, Irrinki Chandra Rao, hailing from Undi village of Undi mandal in West Godavari, was a habitual offender and had even served a jail term for some time earlier after being convicted for burglary.
In what is believed to be his latest heist, he allegedly broke into a jewellery shop at Bhimavaram late on March 31 night and stole the gold and silver articles. Based on a complaint lodged by the owner of jewellery shop on April 1, the police launched a massive hunt and nabbed the culprit in five days and recovered the stolen valuables.
