Hyderabad: A 30-year-old software company employee jumped off the  terrace of a  nine-floor building due to alleged harassment  of her husband and in-laws for additional dowry, under KPHB police station limits on Friday night.

She was reportedly upset at having received a divorce notice from her husband, the KPHB police said.

The victim was identified as K. Meghana, 30, who was employed at a software company located in the city.

According to the police, Meghana had married Kotthapalli Vinay Kumar two years ago. At that time, her family had reportedly given her Rs 20 lakh as dowry including Rs 10 lakh worth of gold.

After six months, Kumar allegedly started demanding more dowry from his wife. When her family did not pay, he reportedly started harassing her along with his family members, police said citing from the complaint filed by Meghana’s family.

KPHB inspector S. Laxmi Narayana said, “The in-laws started harassing Meghana both mentally and physically to divorce Kumar. Meg-hana came to her father’s home. On Thursday her husband sent a legal notice to Meghana, she got upset and went into depression”.

On Friday. Meghana came to the house of her in-laws situated at Bhavya’s Akhila Exotica Apartments at Hyder Nagar, KPHB colony, and, in the evening, committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of the building.

Based on a complaint from Meghana’s father Chippada Panduranga Charya, the KPHB police registered a case against Kumar and his family members and booked them under IPC Sections 498-A (Husband or relative of woman subjecting her to cruelty), 306 (abetment to suicide).
