Karimnagar: Anti-Corruption Bureau arrests junior judge over bribery charges

The bureau officials arrested the judge on Friday after a search of his house.

KARIMNAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Karimnagar registered a case of criminal misconduct against Jagtial additional junior civil judge S. Madhu on the directions of the High Court. The bureau officials arrested the judge on Friday after a search of his house. The Bar Council of Jagtial had lodged a complaint against the judge. Advocates Ch. Ramakrishna Rao and K. Venkateshwar Rao of Jagtial in a complaint with the High Court had levelled corruption charges against Madhu.

They said the judge abused his office by forcing them to pay bribes to acquit their clients in some criminal cases. The advocates claimed the judge demanded bribe and they had paid him Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000. On the basis of the complaints, the High Court directed Telangana ACB to register a case under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, against Madhu and take appropriate action as per the law.
