Karnataka: ACB traps lokayukta official, constable

The court had acquitted the accused constable in 2015.

Bengaluru: In a yet another instance of corruption in the Lokayukta institution, a Judgement Writer at Lokayukta office in the city was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials after a police constable received bribe of Rs 25,000 on his behalf.

Sunkanna, the Judgement Writer, and Sudhakar, a constable attached to AMPC Yard police station in Ballari, were arrested after the latter was trapped by the ACB officials on Thursday.

According to Anti-Corruption Bureau officials, the constable was trapped by the then Lokayukta police in 2011, while allegedly receiving bribe. The court had acquitted the accused constable in 2015.

The legal cell in the Lokayukta institution had also submitted a report that the case was unfit for appeal in a higher court. The accused Judgement Writer had allegedly claimed that he had ensured that the legal cell would not give adverse report against the constable and thus was demanding Rs 34,000 for the favour.

Finally, he had agreed for Rs 25,000.The constable had approached the ACB Bengaluru City police and filed a complaint. Accused Sunkanna had asked him to give the cash to Sudhakar.

“A simultaneous operation was conducted at both Bengaluru and Ballari. While constable Sudhakar was trapped while he accepted Rs 25,000 as bribe on behalf of Sunkanna from the complainant, another team in the Bengaluru arrested Sunkanna based on other evidences. Both have been arrested and further investigations are on,” an official said.
