The court agreed to the proposal and posted the case for further hearing on April 19.

KOCHI: The CBI special court in Kochi on Thursday granted time till April 19 for the investigating agency CBI to file a report on the petition seeking a further probe in the Fazal murder case. The CBI court had granted the time while considering a petition filed by Abdul Sathar, brother of the deceased Fazal. CBI counsel has requested time for filing a counter in the case and pointed out that the charge-sheet has already been filed. The court agreed to the proposal and posted the case for further hearing on April 19.

The demand for further investigation gained traction in the wake of a revelation by a former RSS worker that Fazal was murdered by a RSS gang. Following this, Abdul Sathar filed a petition seeking further investigation. According to the charge-sheet filed by the CBI, eight CPM activists are the accused in the case. Fazal, a former CPM activist who switched loyalty to the National Democratic Front (NDF), was found hacked to death at Thalasserry in 2006.
