Bengaluru: Murder accused - confesses to another killing

A man's body found was found in a drain on March 16 and the police had registered a murder case.

Bengaluru: The Kengeri police, who had recently arrested two people in connection with a murder, cracked another murder case following information that the accused were seen tearing off the police notice pasted on walls seeking information about an unidentified deceased man.

The police had recently arrested Pratap, 21, and Madesh, 22, for allegedly Puttaswamy, 45, a BBMP pourakarmika, and throwing his body into a storm water drain.

When the police took the accused for spot mahazar, they received information that the two had reportedly torn off the notices pasted on walls, seeking the public help to establish the identity of a man who was murdered.

“A man’s body found was found in a drain on March 16 and the police had registered a murder case. As his identity was not known, his pictures were posted at Srinivasapura, Ganakallu, Channasandra and other areas. When we took the accused duo for spot mahazar in Puttaswamy’s murder case, we got information that these two had torn the notices. Growing suspicious, we grilled them in connection with the other murder case and they confessed that they murdered Shivakumar alias Kaddipudu, 24, who worked as a light boy at Kannada film sets,” an official said.

“They revealed that they were in need of money and on March 12, the duo strangled him to death and threw the body into the drain. Pratap’s father, Raju alias Karadi Raju, 43, who helped them in the crime, was also arrested following their confession. The two were involved in a house theft case,” the official added.

Financier hacked to death
A 54-year-old financier was hacked to death in broad daylight by unidentified assailants near Kalpalli cemetery in Pulkeshi Nagar police limits on Thursday.
The incident occurred at around 4 pm when the victim, identified as Kumar G, a resident of Jogu Palya in Ulsoor, along with his friend Mani was going on a bike. As they reached near the cemetery, three unidentified men stopped their bike and attacked Kumar with machetes on his head and face. While Kumar died on the spot, Mani managed to escape.

While the reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, police suspect financial dispute could have been the reason behind the attack. Police said the killers chose an isolated muddy road to attack Kumar and they were aware of the route Kumar would take. They may have followed him closely before carrying out the attack.
