Hyderabad: 10-member gang loot 5kg gold at gunpoint

Cops have picked up all the workers for questioning.

HYDERABAD: A 10-member dacoit gang barged into a jewellery making unit at Petlaburj, held everyone at gunpoint and decamped with five kilogram of gold on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the police, the gang armed with a knife and a firearm, came to the jewellery making unit run by one Uttam Das, a resident of Sheer-ka-Tabela.

“After gagging two persons with plaster and tying their hands with a rope, the gang looted around five kilogram of gold. They also attacked a person when he tried to resist,” said DCP (south) V. Satyanarayana. He denied the gang carrying any firearm.

On the way out, the gang took away the Digital Video Recorder from the place which stored the footage captured by the closed circuit cameras installed in the workshop building.

“We suspect that some known persons were involved in the offence. About 21 employees were there in the workshop and none of them resisted. The gang members spent around one hour in the premises before collecting the gold and leaving the place,” said the official.

The jewellery making unit is situated in the ground floor of a triple storyed building located in a thickly populated lane of Petlaburj.

The police has picked up all the workers for questioning. Soon after the offence was flashed on the wireless sets, armed police teams took over the streets and set up check posts across the city. The police officials conducted massive vehicle checking operations. As the police got a message about the “dacoits” armed with fire arms, the policemen wore bullet proof jackets.

Police teams including commissioner’s Task Force swung into action and started checking the footage recorded by the closed circuit cameras installed in the vicinity. An official said that after analysing the visuals, they suspect that the offenders were from some other state.
