Hyderabad: A special team of doctors consisting of a neurosurgeon, plastic surgeon and other specialists are treating the 17-year-old victim of the attack. According to the doctors, she has around 13-15 stab injuries on her body and her the little finger of her left hand was severed in the attack.
Malakpet Yashoda Hospital Neurosurgeon B. Srinivas said, “She brought with several stab injuries and there was a lot blood lost. The blood pressure dropped to zero and the blood supply to the brain also decreased due to which she went into a coma. Especially there are four stab injuries on her head, one of them on back of her head which connects her skull to the spinal cord. The injury was so deep that the skull bone was fractured and the bone pierced the brain, due to which air entered into the brain.” The consequence of the air entering the brain, he said, is that if she survives, in future she may suffer from seizures.
Plastic surgeon Chandra Mouli, said the injuries on her hands and shoulders are very deep. “She is in a coma and we have to wait for her to stabilise before undertaking any surgery. It will take 48 to 72 hours to bring her to normal condition.” Her chance of survival can only be gauged after 48 hours, he said.
