Seven arrested for 28 burglaries in Hyderabad

During the probe, police also caught one A. Lakshmi Narayana, 37, an auto driver, when he was entering a house to burgle at Meerpet.

Hyderabad: Rachakonda police arrested a gang of four involved in 27 burglaries and an attack on the police at Meerpet. Police recovered property worth Rs 22 lakh as also an air pistol from the accused.

On the intervening night of December 12 and 13, last, a Meerpet police patrol stopped two persons moving on a bike. One of them, Varda Manikandan, 38, claimed to be a constable with the Task Force and showed an air pistol.

Police checked the bike and found some tools generally used by burglars. On this, Manikandan pulled out a pepper spray bottle and sprayed it on the police and escaped along with his friend.

Special teams on Monday succeeded in nabbing Manikandan, P. Yadaiah, Shaik Syed, and M. Upendra Chary. They confessed to committing 27 offences in Rachakonda commissionerate limits since 2017, Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said.

“The gang is associated with one Mallesh of West Marredpally, who was involved in a treasure hunt case at Devarakonda. After his arrest, they all resorted to burglaries,” Mr Bhagwat said.

During the probe, police also caught one A. Lakshmi Narayana, 37, an auto driver, when he was entering a house to burgle at Meerpet.

In another instance, three youngsters from the city who burgled a house at Jawaharnagar were arrested by the police on Monday who recovered 66 tolas of gold, 3.5 kg silver and other valuables from them.

The youngsters had burgled the house of one Danam Narsing Rao at Yapral on the night of December 30-31.

The Jawaharnagar police collected fingerprints from the crime scene which helped them identify and arrest Tuna Sanjay Singh, 20, an intermediate dropout from Medchal, Manish Upadhyay, 20, of Moula Ali and Pradeep Shyam, 20, of Medchal.

Sanjay was arrested for eight thefts and Manish in six. Police said Sanjay was released from Cherlapally central prison in June 2019 and planned the robber, according to a police official.
