Culprit arrested with solid evidence: Urban SP B Rajakumari

Police warn people against spreading communal rumours in Rajahmundry.

Rajahmundry: A section of Muslim leaders expressed their doubt on the man arrested by the police claiming to be the killer involved in the brutal murder of mauzen Md. Farooq of Noor mosque a few days ago in Rajahmundry. Urban police reiterate their claim based on scientific evidence and warn that stern action will be taken against those who provide mis-information on the issue to breach maintenance of law, order and peace.

Urban superintendent of police B. Rajakumari told the media on Saturday that police officers from various wings like law and order, CID, intelligence, special branch, fingerprints, forensic science, arson and dog squad were involved in the investigation. She said that the accused, Arumugam Mani Ratnam was a habitual offender and has been involved in two murder cases. She said that the accused hails from Guntakar of Anantapur and was arrested on January 3 by the special teams only after finding corroborative evidence based on closed circuit television footage and analysis by senior officers from law and order.

Referring to the reports found on social media platforms stating that the main culprit in the murder case was not arrested and some other person was nabbed by the police, she said that such a move would stir up communal violence and warned that those resorting to such vilified campaign would be taken to task and be booked under sections 153 (A) of the IPC and a jail term of five years. However, the SP advised the people having doubts on identification of the accused to call up senior police officers like Bommuru circle inspector, East Zone DSP and Additional SP to get clarification.

With regards to burning of the two pages of the Quran near Khureshi mosque at Jampeta in the late hours on January 1, and the partial burning of a curtain of the house of mauzen Munirul Islam of Khureshi mosque in the early hours on January 4, the SP said that these were done by the wife of the mauzen who suffers from mental illness. She further said that the Muslim elders also asked the police not to carry out any inquiry on the issue as the culprit has been identified. Moreover, the superintendent of police clarified that four men who were found in a car near Khureshi mosque after burning the Quran were traced to Nidadavole.
