Kerala: Report sought on assaulting policeman
KOCHI: The Assistant Commissioner of Police will probe the allegations that the Central Police has released a person taken into custody for assaulting a civil police officer due to political interference. “The ACP has been asked to submit a report within two days. Action will be initiated against the guilty based on the probe report”, said Kochi city police Commissioner M.P. Dinesh. The incident took place on December 3, night when a night patrol team spotted a person identified as Sudheesh near the railway track behind the KSRTC bus station.
Sudheesh, a native of Kozhikode and working as clerk for an advocate, assaulted Solomon, CPO attached to Erankulam Central Police station tried to take him into custody. According to DCP Arul B. Krishna Solomon, accompanied by another cop, had a fracas with Sudheesh when they tried to take him into custody. Sudheesh was however brought to Central station and booked for assault under section 322 of IPC.
The police however failed to record his arrest and released him a few hours later. Speculations are rife that Sudheesh, a clerical staff of an ‘influential lawyer’ was released due to political interference. “The cop who had accompanied Solomon gave a statement that the CPO had gone overboard while challenging the suspect. In the wake of the finding, we released him’’, explained Mr Dinesh.
