Bengaluru: Bike rider killed in accident, wife on pillion injured
Bengaluru: A 27-year-old bike rider died while his wife suffered minor injuries when the bike they were traveling was rear-ended by a KSRTC bus on Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Kamal Mani. His injured wife Lavanya, 27, was the pillion rider, the police said. Both of them work as civil engineers and were on their way to their workplaces after visiting their hometown Puligarai in Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu for the weekend.
Kamal Mani worked with a construction company in Basaveshwaranagar, while his wife worked with a construction company in 1st Block Rajajinagar. Around 5 am on Monday, the couple left on the bike from Puligarai and reached Rajkumar Road around 9.25 am. Kamal was dropping his wife to her office in Rajajinagar when the KSRTC bus, bearing the registration number KA-42-F-1834, that was being driven rashly, rammed into the bike from behind. Lavanya fell on to the left side of the road, while Kamal fell on to his right, coming under the wheel of the bus. He sustained grievous head injuries despite wearing a helmet, the police said.
He was rushed to a private hospital nearby where he succumbed to injuries at 10.12 am, the police said. His body was shifted to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital for the postmortem and later handed over to the family members who took the body back to Dharmapuri.
Rajajinagar traffic police registered a case of accidental death due to rash and negligent driving and have booked the driver and have also seized the bus for further investigations. Kamal Mani was a resident of Mariappanpalaya in Ullal in Bengaluru, the police added.
