SEB seize Rs 6-crore worth intoxicants in special drive

SEB used dog squads in East and West Godavari districts to seize consignments of ganja, apart from gutka, khaini

VIJAYAWADA / KAKINADA: Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) sleuths, as part of their special drive against illegal transport of drugs, ganja, liquor and gutka have seized Rs 6 crore worth of these goods and arrested 570 persons.

Vijayawada city police commissioner B. Sreenivasulu told media persons here on Friday that during the drive they have seized 8,000 kg ganja. SEB used dog squads in East and West Godavari districts to seize consignments of ganja, apart from gutka, khaini and other prohibited products. The seizures had been from places including bus and railway stations, transport offices, godowns, lodges and other public places in the two districts.

The commissioner ruled out any link between the huge consignment of heroin seized at Mundra Port in Gujarat and Vijayawada in AP, except that a local Vijayawada address had been used twice, though the epicentre of the racket had been Delhi.

On law and order in Vijayawada, Sreenivasulu said 18 rowdy sheeters have been expelled from the city, while new rowdy sheets have been opened against 116 persons. Suspect sheets have been opened against 3,000 persons.
The commissioner maintained that efforts are on to ensure peaceful polls in Kondapalli municipality.
