Tamil Nadu: Bengal boy rescued

The 17-year-old, a first year college student, reportedly told RPF officials that he had come to the city to commit suicide.

Chennai: Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials at Central railway station had their task cut out on Saturday evening. They were sent details about a teenager from West Bengal who boarded a train to Chennai, allegedly on the instructions of the administrators of the Blue Whale challenge game.

The 17-year-old, a first year college student, reportedly told RPF officials that he had come to the city to commit suicide as part of the notorious online game. “We received information from Delhi about the boy who travelled from Siliguri and is expected to reach Chennai. Though we had his pictures and other details sent to us, our counterparts were not aware of which train he had boarded”, a RPF official said.

A seven-member team headed by Divisional Security Commisioner (RPF), S Louis Amuthan scanned through all the trains coming from the Eastern states and managed to identify the boy at around 7 pm. He had come to Chennai by the Coromandel Express. On seeing the cops, he tried to escape, but was rounded up.

RPF personnel said that he was in a depressed state and he had drawn various ways to commit suicide in a notebook he was carrying. "He said that he would be given further information by the administrators of the game after reaching the city", a RPF official said.

The boy's father is a school principal in West Bengal. His family has been informed and they reached the city on Sunday to take the boy home. The boy was sent to a home and was counselled by Child Welfare Committee (CWC) officials. “Only investigations will prove if he was a victim of the Blue Whale game. But, he was clearly not in a normal state of mind,” said an RPF officer.
