Hyderabad: Nigerian falls off roof in bid to escape from cops

The deceased, Patrick Ojana, 34, of Dungu in Nigeria, is suspected to be involved in a drug racket.

Hyderabad: A Nigerian native died after falling from a building while escaping Task Force officials who were cracking down on drug peddlers in Asifnagar. The raids were conducted following an order from Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar, who said that officials had arrested 34 African nationals and seized their passports.

The deceased, Patrick Ojana, 34, of Dungu in Nigeria, is suspected to be involved in a drug racket. The Task Force team raided a flat in Ayodhyanagar, Asifnagar and apprehended three men and seized seven passports, the commissioner added.

“Patrick who was hiding on the terrace, heard the team return after half-an-hour. He tried to escape by holding on to the sewage pipe. As the pipe was not strong enough to hold a man’s weight, it broke and he fell. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by officials where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday night,” the official said. Speaking to this newspaper, Kishore, a resident of the apartment said Patrick hid beside the water tank on the terrace. “A police constable suggested to the officials that they should check the terrace and it was then that he tried to evade and leap.”
