More arrests soon in Kanakamala case, says NIA

Intensifies probe on ISIS recruitment' .

Kochi: The National Investigation Agency has intensified the probe into the Kanakamala case and are preparing to arrest more accused. According to top sources the agency will make further arrests in the coming days.

According to sources the arrest of six persons will help the agency to keep a tab on extremist activities in the state.

NIA is also planning to take CCTV footage from various parts of Kerala especially Kozhikode, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. As part of this visuals from the premises of Kerala High Court would also be collected, sources added. Recently the cops beefed up security in Kochi and asked wayside eateries to set up CCTV cameras inside the shops including 'thattukadas'.

The team is also working in hands with their counterparts in Coimbatore. Three persons were arrested from Coimbatore and the sleuths questioned three more persons and let them off. The arrested persons are at present in judicial custody. The accused will remain in judicial custody till October 14.

NIA conducted search operation Kozikhode and Kannur in Kerala and 6 persons, were arrested for their involvement in the conspiracy. Five of them were arrested while they were conducting a meeting at Kanakamala hilltop, Kannur. During subsequent searches, another person was detained from Kuttiyadi in Kozhikode and arrested later on. According to NIA incriminating material including electronic devices, have been seized from their possession and search of their premises. Follow up searches are being conducted by NIA in Chennai, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Kannur, Kozikhode and Mallapuram in Kerala with support of Tamil Nadu and Kerala Police, NIA said in its official website.
