Hyderabad: Odisha man stalks college girl, nabbed by SHE team
Hyderabad: A man from Odisha, who had been allegedly stalking a teenaged college girl for two months, was arrested on Wednesday by the SHE team on Wednesday.
Md Azhar Hussain, who works in a hotel at Saidabad, is married and has children. Police said he had been following the girl and harassing her.
“He came to Hyderabad for taking up a job. But since the last two months, he had been stalking a minor girl who is studying Intermediate first year. He used to go to her college daily and follow her to her residence,” additional commissioner of police (Crimes and SIT) Swati Lakra said.
“He tried to strike up a conversation with her and also started throwing papers at her with his phone number and asked her to call him. The victim got frightened at this and stopped going to college. Her mother, who is a widow, and is struggling to educate her daughter informed her relatives about the stalker and sought their help,” she said.
Her cousins started accompanying the girl but Azhar continued to stalk her. After that her cousins beat him up warned him to keep off. Though he stopped following her for two days he started it again. The girl was afraid to go to college and her mother also got frightened.
“After a complaint from her relatives SHE teams booked a case under IPC Section 354-D and arrested him. He has been remanded to judicial custody,” Lakra added.
Hyderabad police set up SHE teams in October 2014 to take action against eve-teasers and stalkers. A SHE team consists of a male or female sub-inspector, a woman constable and three constables who carry hidden cameras for video recording.
